ASCONA-SVIZZERA - Nine days of nice weather and a great selection of music in token of the New Orleans Experience affirmed the great success of JazzAscona and its 31st edition, which will end on Sunday July 5th with a Final Jazz Party at the Golf Club of Ascona.

Friday night’s rain did not spoil the party. More than fifty thousand people came to the two hundred or so concerts that were offered throughout the ten days of the festival. The crowds filled the piazza every evening, even on admission free weeknights. The produced income appears to be positive. PresidentGuido Casparis is very satisfied, as are the festival’s sponsors, partners and fans. “We have achieved a qualitative leap in terms of music, audience reception, structures and communication that allows us to look towards the future in a positive way”.

JazzAscona’s new and effective visual communication, designed by Jannuzzi & Smith, illustrates the significant evolution of a festival that appears to be increasingly attractive to larger audiences and has established itself as one of the most original and musically diverse events in Europe. Rather than Dixieland orchestras, JazzAscona promotes the feeling and musical spirit of New Orleans, offering an interesting sample of sounds from the Big Easy, that is representative of the tradition, dynamism and fervor of black music. No other festival in Europe is able to provide insight into present day New Orleans as well as Ascona.

A festive and positive atmosphere provided the perfect background for the entire ten days of the festival. Artistic Director Nicolas Gilliet successfully balanced tradition with modernity, offering a rich and diverse program featuring great artists such as Shannon PowellDavell Crawford and their bands, young trumpet prodigies Shamarr Allen and John Michael Bradford, amazing talents such as Wendell Brunious and Barry Stephenson as well as Emma Pask’s Australian trio.

Among the festival’s great events was the performance of singer Dee Dee Bridgewater, who was accompanied by the great Irvin Mayfield and his brilliant New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, as well as the shows of popular bands such as Ray GelatoThe Primatics and Davina & the Vagabonds.

The numerous musicians from the Crescent City created a truly amazing atmosphere. The festival’s trump card was the intensified presence of New Orleans (accompanied by a selection of savory food), supported by the three-year collaboration agreement with the city’s authorities. JazzAscona will continue to work towards strengthening its relationship with the Crescent City.

JazzAscona’s 32nd edition will take place from June 23rd to July 2nd 2016.
