Bill Charlap, one of the world’s premier jazz pianists, leads a musical tribute to trumpeter Miles Davis’ groundbreaking 1957 album Birth of the Cool. A one-time-only event! The Capitol Records compilation, recorded by Davis’ acclaimed nonet, included such jazz masterworks as “Jeru,” “Venus de Milo” and “Rouge.” For this performance, Charlap will be accompanied by trumpeter Jeremy Pelt, baritone saxophonist Frank Basile, alto saxophonist Jon Gordon, trombonist Jason Jackson, horn player Jeff Scott, tubaist Bob Stewart, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington. Known for his interpretations of American popular song, Charlap has performed with leading artists of our time, including Tony Bennett and Wynton Marsalis. He received two Grammy Award nominations, for Somewhere: The Songs of Leonard Bernstein and most recently The Bill Charlap Trio: Live at the Village Vanguard. Charlap also has recorded albums featuring the music of Hoagy Carmichael and George Gershwin.
