"Overall, we welcomed 20,000 music fans in perfect weather in Worms. So we are very happy with the 28th edition of the festival. A peaceful festival without any special occurrences also reported medical services and security forces. "Mayor Michael Kissel drew this positive balance on festival Sunday and added:" Also Minister of Culture Prof. Dr. med. Konrad Wolf was enthusiastic about this highlight in the Rhineland-Palatinate calendar of events. "The special thanks of the head of the city went to the organizer and the many volunteers. Petra Graen, Alderman of the City of Worms and Chairwoman of the Shareholders' Committee of the Culture and Events GmbH (KVG) added: "In view of the many events already held by the organizers, it is impressive that with the" Jazz & Joy "was another highlight. All participants have shown full commitment. "Sascha Kaiser, managing director of the organizer, the KVG, is convinced that the festival has once again made many Worms and visitors from the surrounding metropolitan areas happy, and added:" Of course, this is only possible thanks to the support our five stage godfathers and the partners of the festival. Through their commitment, we were able to offer visitors the usual high-quality program. Successful festival kick-off on Friday evening

Two strong women made for a thrilling festival kick-off on Friday evening on the two biggest stages of the festival: At 8 pm Sarah Connor hit the 3,000 visitors in the market square for elation with the hits of her successful album "Muttersprache", which reached its peak as the soul singer English-speaking catchy tunes like "From Sarah With Love" or "Let`s Get Back To Bed" from their debut album "Green Eyed Soul" were presented. One and a half hours later, the concert by Candy Dulfer started on a bulging Weckerlingplatz. The internationally renowned Dutchwoman wanted to oblige the artistic director David Maier for a long time for the festival and was therefore all the more pleased to welcome the world-class saxophonist on the opening evening in Worms.
However, it was not only the stages on Markt- und Weckerlinplatz that offered the program, as visitors could enjoy concerts on the other three stages as well. The Mainz band Good Morning Yesterday presented indie, folk and pop with free entry on the RENOLIT stage. If you visited the two stages in the shadow of the Worms Cathedral, you could visit Soul-On feat. ELIJAH around the Wormser lead singer Steven Neuhaus and on the place of the partnership the young jazz trio Seng / Kühn / Jentzen.

Premiere: Zukunftswerkstatt - Jazz in Rhineland-Palatinate

For the first time, an industry gathering of the Rhineland-Palatinate jazz scene took place during the festival. At the Worms cultural center, 35 participants - including musicians and organizers - met on the festival's day with the goal of strengthening the scene for the future and building up synergies.

Varied highlights on the festival weekend

Already for the second time she made for the festival for exuberant mood, enthusiastic fans and brought the crowd to dance - the speech is from Stefanie Heinzmann, who rocked the Sparkassen stage on Saturday night. The marketplace visitors were treated to a special treat when the likeable Swiss invited fellow countryman Seven to join the stage in front of her. Both were visibly exuberant on stage and enthusiastic about the Worms audience. Heinzmann and Seven presented a touching duet with "Stranger In This World". On Sunday afternoon, the stage on the market place was then all about the family, as "Your friends" presented raps, beats and imaginative texts from the family life music for children at eye level.
The program on the Volksbank stage was also top-class at the weekend - including performances by The Hi-Fly Orchestra or Jungle by Night. The nine-strong troupe from the Netherlands made for a proppy place and motivated the crowd with a genre-blasting mix of West African afrobeats, dub, hip hop and Ethiopian jazz to dance. Equally versatile was the British band Ephemerals, which combined jazz, afrobeat, psychedelia, soul and R'n'B with rock and hip hop on Sunday night. Guitarist Torsten Goods was the real master of the cool groove on stage.
The Cuban zest for life brought Son del Nene on Saturday evening to Worms on the fully occupied Schlossplatz. In the alternation of soft melancholy and exuberant passion, singer El Nene has authentically and rousingly embodied the Son Cubano - the traditional music style of Cuba. In the afternoon, Willy Sahel abducted his audience to his homeland in southern central Chad. On festival Sunday, the ERA stage was all about blues with performances by the German Blues Award winners, the Jimmy Reiter Band, as well as Paul Lamb & The King Snakes, one of the world's top international top acts from England.
An El Dorado for jazz enthusiasts was once again the place of the partnership. Here on Saturday, for example, they were able to look forward to the French fusion guitarist and exceptional talent Tom Ibarra with his band. In the evening, visitors to the performance of Bugge Wesseltoft & Christian Prommer enjoyed a very special sound experience beyond the acoustically conventional. Also in Worms, the free improvisations of the German-Norwegian duo have been bribed by intuitive music and experimental sound design. With Franco Ambrosetti. "Grandseigneur of the Swiss Hardbop", the jazz program on the WZ stage found its way to a successful conclusion on Sunday evening.
The Fible, Les Fils de Teuhpu, Indian Whisperers or Brothers of Santa Clause are just a few of the artists who made the audience dance in front of the freely accessible RENOLIT stage at the hostel.

Even behind the scenes smooth flow

If 38 concerts take place on five stages over three days, then that also means that numerous artists from home and abroad, a large team of supervisors in the backstage areas and a large group of drivers will be co-ordinated in advance and on-site have to. Nobody in the KVG team knows this better than Katharina Kaiser and Markus Reis from the festival management. They, too, draw a positive conclusion: "The mood was relaxed on and off the stage on and off stage, so that not only the artists but also their responsible agencies in Worms felt comfortable," said Kaiser. "The processes ran smoothly. Thanks to the attentive team behind the stages, for example, an incorrectly positioned concert grand piano could be quickly transported to the right location without disrupting the program, "adds Reis.

More than "just" a music festival: gastronomy & supporting program

Enjoyment and variety characterize "Worms: Jazz & Joy" not only the music program: At the festival area in the city center, restaurateurs from Worms and the region offered paella, Mediterranean foccacia, juicy burgers or the classic bratwurst, as well as waffles on spits or refreshing frozen yogurts , Anyone visiting a festival in Worms, the third largest winegrowing community in Germany, is of course also offered a variety of wine enjoyment by Rheinhessen winegrowers, who invited them to linger on the entire event grounds. "In the great weather, the restaurateurs are satisfied with the sales," sums up Patrick Gagneur of Events & More, who is responsible for the catering and ambience of the festival:
Four popular Worms congregations invited to the popular jazz services this year - the Trinity Church, the New Apostolic Church, the Free Evangelical Church and the Worms Cathedral. With church cabaret, gospel songs, band performances or a joint barbecue after the service, they enriched the festival program.
Thanks to the Halli Gali mobile home, the Children's Festival once again offered festivalgoers the opportunity to romp and have fun on the festival weekend. The visit of theatrical dragon Theo, the new mascot in the Wormser Theater, who posed for numerous photos with his fans, provided radiant children's eyes.

Festival without sponsors not realizable

A festival on the scale of "Worms: Jazz & Joy" would not be possible in 2018 without the friendly support of a whole range of supporters. They all have the special thanks of the organizers. The following main sponsors presented the five stages: Sparkasse Worms-Alzey-Ried, Volksbank Alzey-Worms eG, EWR AG, RENOLIT SE, Wormser Zeitung. Other festival partners include: Cultural Summer Rhineland-Palatinate of the Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation for Culture, afri cola, Lotto Rheinland-Pfalz GmbH, Privatbrauerei Eichbaum GmbH & Co. KG and Fachingen Heil- und Mineralbrunnen GmbH. SWR1 presents the special concert with Sarah Connor and SWR3 the performance of Stefanie Heinzmann. Trans Service Team GmbH presents the "TST-Lounge am Marktplatz".
