Charles LloydHEALDSBURG, CA - Healdsburg Jazz Festival shines the spotlight on one of its headliners, Charles Lloyd, performing Sunday, June 3 in celebration of his 80th birthday and the festival's 20th anniversary.

More details from Healdsburg Jazz Festival (www.healdsburgjazzfestival.org):

He has to be considered a legend strictly on the basis of how many people he brought into the fold – tens of thousands, if not millions. 'Forest Flower' was released 52 years ago, and the hippies may be gone but Charles Lloyd is still going strong, celebrating his 80th year in Healdsburg on Sunday, June 3.

For this appearance - his sixth at the Healdsburg Jazz Festival - the ever-creative saxophonist shares the Jackson Theater stage with his musical intimates: drummer Eric Harland and tabla artist Zakir Hussain (the "Sangam" trio, above), plus pianist Gerald Clayton and bassist Harish Raghavan.

Coming along for the ride is special guest Bill Frisell, still in town following his Opening Night guitar duo with Julian Lage. Whomever he chooses to play with him, Lloyd trusts his band members, he trusts his audience, and he trusts the cosmos to feed him the incredible questing, beseeching, roaring sounds he gets out of his instruments. See the miracle that is Charles Lloyd and Friends on Sunday, June 3 at the Jackson Theater. Read more...
